About this place

The Al Hirschfeld Theatre adds a slightly different flavor to a Broadway venue quest: a west-of-Eighth Avenue house with distinctive Moorish and Byzantine-inspired architecture. It feels close to Times Square but just enough removed to reward intentional theatergoers.

Trivia

Opened in 1924 as the Martin Beck Theatre, it was renamed in 2003 for caricaturist Al Hirschfeld. It is the only Broadway theater located west of Eighth Avenue.

Visiting tips

The Port Authority/42nd Street subway and bus terminal area is nearby, but sidewalk traffic can be dense before curtain. Check entry instructions for the current production before arrival.
