Central Grocery & Deli

Central Grocery is the birthplace of the muffuletta, making it one of America's most important sandwich destinations. Visiting in person connects the olive-salad-laden sandwich to the French Quarter storefront where it became a New Orleans icon.

Goldbelly says Central Grocery opened in 1906 and credits owner Salvatore Lupo with creating the muffuletta.
